Truck Carrying Over 2 Tons of Explosives Stolen in Brazil

SAO PAULO – Five armed men stole a truck in Sao Paulo that was carrying nearly 2.4 tons of explosives, including 850 kilos (nearly one ton) of dynamite, the Brazilian press reported.
The truck was stolen Wednesday at kilometer 4 of the Fernao Dias highway, which links Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais states, the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reported on its Web site, citing police.
The robbers, who were traveling in two automobiles, cut off the truck and abducted the driver, who was released several hours later.
Police and army investigators are trying to track down the robbers and recover the stolen explosives.
The explosives belong to a chemical company in the southern city of Curitiba that has a subsidiary on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city and the capital of the like-named state.
The truck was also carrying other items, including 1,220 detonators. EFE
